Power songs:
I have found having a go to playlist of songs that help turn my mood around has been a very therapeutic thing.
Sometimes I am not in a place where I can go enjoy one of my hobbies, so I have to turn to music.
These are songs that I know will calm me down and bring my emotions back to a steady state. Because I know myself enough, my playlist has majority even keel songs. Songs that won’t allow me to get more amped up than I probably already am at the moment.
Doing this is not dismissing the situation. You are giving yourself permission to be in a less emotional state before/during your processing and working through the situation.
I typically just put the list on repeat until I have relaxed.
I do change out the songs from time to time, if I happen to hear a song that I know would be helpful in a stressful time.
My playlist is called ‘Riding Music’. When I was younger my papa always told “You need to get some good riding music.” I didn’t really know what that meant when was 11 or 12, now I get it.
Here is my playlist:

What does your “Riding Music” playlist look like?

Meditation:
I have not gotten into meditation, but I know a lot of people that include meditating as part of their daily routine. Being able to be calm and at peace focusing on the guided voice or listening to the serene music to get to a tranquil state of mind helps millions of people.
Since this is not my area of expertise, I am very interested in hearing what you have to say about meditation.

Podcasts:
I have come to truly enjoy podcast quite a bit (and no dad, it’s not the same as talk radio so don’t say that). I use my morning commute to work to listen to podcasts. I find it a great way to start my day. This commute is also where I get my daily sermons. My go-to church podcasts are:
- Elevation with Steven Furtick
- Life.Church with Craig Groeschel
Elevation church is based out of South Carolina and Life.Church is based out of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Both church models have satellite campuses all over the world. As a matter of fact, I used to attend Life.Church Fort Worth campus while I was in college. Unfortunately, neither church has a campus in Houston, so podcast and YouTube are the only way for me to listen to the sermons. Streaming church is huge today, so I am technically a part of each church’s e-family. Anyways…. These are the 2 churches that spiritually feed me each day.
‘Office Hours’ with T.K. Coleman and Isaac Morehouse. This podcast focuses on professional development and they give actionable advice on how to take charge of your life and career.
I am also a minimalist. I have devoted and still devote a lot of time to minimizing and living a minimalist lifestyle (check out my other blog www.pursuingminimalism.com), but I still have not yet found a minimalist blog that I enjoy, but this topic will be on my podcast list.
